Power flushing cleans out your heating system so that it can operate at peak efficiency. Most heating and plumbing experts recommend that your system be flushed to avoid problems. Power flushing is also recommended before you fit a new boiler to an existing heating system to reduce the possibility of future problems.
After flushing, the system is refilled with clean water and an inhibitor. The inhibitor is a chemical solution which prevents the different metals in the system from reacting with each other and causing the build up of debris.
Without the inhibitor, corrosion and sludge builds up as a consequence of normal operation and this can cause a number of problems with your heating system including:
- Noisy boiler operation. If your boiler clanks, moans and groans, it may benefit from a good power flushing.
- Repeated pump failures. If your pump needs frequent repairs, it may be getting clogged with rust particles that reduce its efficiency.
- Radiators need frequent bleeding and don’t warm up. This can be caused by Hydrogen build up which occurs as a result of the same metals interacting which lead to sludge and debris.
- Radiators that are completely cold or have cold spots on them may be partially or completely clogged with sludge build up.
- Radiators with pinhole perforations and leakage may also be a symptom of a dirty heating system.
- The cold water feed pipe blocking up with corrosion and sludge.
Power flushing involves running water and cleaning chemical through your entire heating system. It removes the debris and sludge left behind by corrosion, clearing out the pipes so that you get your full water pressure back. When the power flushing is done, your entire heating system is filled with clean water and inhibitor so that you get optimum operation.
